Christmas in Covid
A downloadable game for Windows
Snow's falling... it's almost Christmas...
Christmas in Covid follows the story of Marian Sanders, a woman living in an assisted living facility during December 2020. Help Marian write letters to her close family and friends by choosing who to write to, what to talk about, and even helping Marian reflect on memories that unlock new options.
In 2020, most of the world experienced a lockdown due to Covid19. For seniors in assisted living facilities, the effects of isolation were enhanced- with limited contact with anyone but healthcare professionals and barely able to see their families in person, they often struggled with the technology used to communicate and faced the disease at a much higher risk level.
This game was developed by talking to a therapist who worked in assisted living facilities during the pandemic. The hopes and fears Marian writes about in her letters are inspired by the stories of real older adults and their experiences with Covid, their families, technology, and more.
The game was co-designed and developed by Marielle Brady and Sam Sobel for the Safe in Our World Game Jam 2024.
